David Usher: 'Ugly Is Beautiful'
Now with this Usher - not to be confused with the other guy (and he never is) - it all seems more like an open-and-shut case here. How laudable and honorable of him to state that "ugly is beautiful" indeed. He proves, with that statement alone, that he sees things far more clearly than most ever do. Never mind the fact that he's a lean, hip, popular chiseled "dude" deemed to be "in" as well as "on the cutting edge" by all the humanoids of his generation (and especially younger) out there. And did I mention "hip" too? Oh, I did! Ok - let's move on...!
With Americans, of course, everything gets to be topsy-turvy very fast: good intentions lead to evil deeds indeed! Reversely, bad, rotten apples become heroes - we saw it in Operation Desert Storm and both fiascos before and after (the 'Nam and Iraq!) and we'll continue to see it, I'm sure - because only rednecks and damn yankees without brains fill up the roster when troops are needed as cannon fodder! But I am digressing here...
Back to the white Usher (just to differenciate from the other one, ok?)
He did sin via a trifle more than a little bit of self-indulgence, one time; heck, it's downright vanity to cut away from the group that made you known in the first place and "go solo" - for good! (What was the name of that group, again? See what his vanity has done?) Still, once solo, he comes out with such things as "Ugly Is Beautiful" - hopefully not only to reverse the curse put on America when they started being called "the ugly american" collectively and/or indiscriminatively, regardless of who it is (a mere tourist or an ambassador appointed by Dubya!)
However... The white Usher also released such oddities as "Unholy, Dirty And Beautiful" (among other Little Songs issued in 1999)
Surely such oxymoronic nonsense cannot go unpunished now: there is NOTHING beautiful about being unholy, of all things...! And dirt isn't pretty either.
So... David Usher - saint or sinner?
I'll leave this one open for debate, I think...
After all - where's his Goliath, eh?
