saints or sinners?

In the same vein as Jay Leno's perennial question "straight or gay" (lest it is "gay or straight" - who cares in this P.C. world anymore - eh? It was just a funny segment on Leno's show!) - let us thoroughly analyze now the qualities and the faults of many an illuminary... shall we? Fine with ya? Ok? Good! ~ NOTA BENE: perhaps because of the subject matter, this blog is neither perfect with IE, nor with Firefox!

Annie

Our favorite sinners (or saints, sure...) are those hailing from the fair sex; and we make no secret of that! I mean, just look at the template used for this one - decidedly on the pinkish side, eh? So, yeah - just like directors of horror films will always prefer slashing, dicing and hacking into pieces pretty little girls - zooming in for multiple close up shots of their frightened faces all throughout the ordeal, we at S.O.S. will always privilege the saintly lady... and the sinful ho!
With occasional exceptions, sure...

With that in mind, we give to you the strange case of... ANNIE!

No, not Little Orphan Annie; not this Annie nor this other Annie - she filled up his senses, she had to be decidedly (like, totally) saintly - hence there is no debate here! And we need to debate it here - it is the raison d'être of the blog - duh! So... It could have been Dreamboat Annie - but no - not her either! We wanted to go with a real Annie here - not a fictitious one!

So we give you... ANNIE LENNOX!

For the briefest of times (but while it was going on, it appeared to be eternal) Annie Lennox was the ultimate pop artist; the uncontested queen diva of modern music - the goddess of rock! She could sing it all and, roughly between the years 1982 and 1995, she did just that - scoring a plethora of hits on all the charts there are. She was successful as a part of Eurythmics (amazing they didn't win Eurovision - did they even bother to participate, actually?!?) and, soon enough, as her recognition grew and her name became bigger than her band's, she carried on being successful as a solo act.

As such, she championed many a cause; gender-bending, for instance... It was never made clearer than in the sort-of-retrospective video for Little Bird and, hey - she had debuted as a very androgynous creature on Eurythmics' very first huge hit, Here Comes The Rain Again, so... Big points there, for some percentage of society - no lie there... She teamed up with ''icons'' such as Aretha Franklin most notably, for a timeless anthem that has inspired many a feminist - also a huge plus.  Hell, speaking of icons, she loves Beethoven! (Shakespeare too, audibly... But that's another story!) And she ended up admitting Money Can't Buy anything, really...! Bravo!

As for me, she will always emblemize 1984, no matter what! Can't wait 'til the song tops the charts again - thanks to Wonder Woman 1984! *lol*

Most peeps remember her solo career for one single tune: the love song for a vampire - though...! Ugh. She took on the part of a prostitute for her video for Love Is A Stranger -
And then she'll claim he's the thorn in her side - not her in his! Chill out, grrl! But fact is that most of her songs do lay squarely the blame on the man - as if she (and women in general) can do no wrong in a relationship, it's always his fault! HA! That's a bunch of minus points right there!

Most of the stuff she's done after her ''decade of dominance'' (when even the Mad Onna was no match for her - no matter she says!) has left the fans cold - alas...

With so many faces and facets, we are left to wonder indeed: who is that girl?!?
In the end, however, she has divulged the truth about this already - years ago:

Aww... ENOUGH with the WHYs...!
What about the HOWCOMES instead:
howcome you've such a SAINTLY aura,
dear sweet Annie... when you're so obviously
a SINNER like any other?!?
