saints or sinners?

In the same vein as Jay Leno's perennial question "straight or gay" (lest it is "gay or straight" - who cares in this P.C. world anymore - eh? It was just a funny segment on Leno's show!) - let us thoroughly analyze now the qualities and the faults of many an illuminary... shall we? Fine with ya? Ok? Good! ~ NOTA BENE: perhaps because of the subject matter, this blog is neither perfect with IE, nor with Firefox!

Beyoncé: beyond categorization?

Beyonce : Beautiful Liar
Beyonce : Beautiful Liar

Hmm... Beyond the OXYMORON here on display...
Just because she's so "beautiful" doesn't make up for the fact that she unabashedly LIES like that...! And it certainly doesn't SANCTIFY it either...!

And I would be remiss if I didn't add that, even if she was to ask Mad-Onna for guidance on this subject (she who sang, among other nonsensical tunes, "Like A Virgin" and "Like A Prayer") she wouldn't be getting any sanctification then either!

Beyoncé is guilty of the very same sins as the Mad one: she branched out into films and made dreadful contributions there... Both, ironically or just amusingly coincidentally, partnered with Austin Powers, an avowed sinner himself...! But that is another story/case...

Beyoncé has such angelic eyes though - unlike other starlets, pop tarts and assorted flavours like herself, she does not overemphasize that dark side of herself: which may explain why she is fading now while Lady Gagas are rising...

Beyoncé's buddy there, Shakira, is much like her and, in effect, nothing other than a latino version of herself...!

Forget about Shakira or that girl band she used to hang with, though!
Maybe we will tackle their cases, later...

Beyoncé's association with Austin Powers makes me think that, perhaps, she likes British music, too. But that cannot suffice to save her, methinks - or can it?
Not even Simple Minds can help her now, realistically (they who sang... "Sanctify Yourself")
*lol*

David Usher: 'Ugly Is Beautiful'
David Usher: 'Ugly Is Beautiful'

Now with this Usher - not to be confused with the other guy (and he never is) - it all seems more like an open-and-shut case here. How laudable and honorable of him to state that "ugly is beautiful" indeed. He proves, with that statement alone, that he sees things far more clearly than most ever do. Never mind the fact that he's a lean, hip, popular chiseled "dude" deemed to be "in" as well as "on the cutting edge" by all the humanoids of his generation (and especially younger) out there. And did I mention "hip" too? Oh, I did! Ok - let's move on...!

With Americans, of course, everything gets to be topsy-turvy very fast: good intentions lead to evil deeds indeed! Reversely, bad, rotten apples become heroes - we saw it in Operation Desert Storm and both fiascos before and after (the 'Nam and Iraq!) and we'll continue to see it, I'm sure - because only rednecks and damn yankees without brains fill up the roster when troops are needed as cannon fodder! But I am digressing here...

Back to the white Usher (just to differenciate from the other one, ok?)
He did sin via a trifle more than a little bit of self-indulgence, one time; heck, it's downright vanity to cut away from the group that made you known in the first place and "go solo" - for good! (What was the name of that group, again? See what his vanity has done?) Still, once solo, he comes out with such things as "Ugly Is Beautiful" - hopefully not only to reverse the curse put on America when they started being called "the ugly american" collectively and/or indiscriminatively, regardless of who it is (a mere tourist or an ambassador appointed by Dubya!)

However... The white Usher also released such oddities as "Unholy, Dirty And Beautiful" (among other Little Songs issued in 1999)
Surely such oxymoronic nonsense cannot go unpunished now: there is NOTHING beautiful about being unholy, of all things...! And dirt isn't pretty either.

So... David Usher - saint or sinner?
I'll leave this one open for debate, I think...
After all - where's his Goliath, eh?

The Three Kings

OK- who are these three guys?
Melchior, Balthazar and Gaspard
(the latter sometimes called Caspar)
Two white guys and a black guy!
(Although they all look white on the above pic!)
Sounds like the Rat Pack to me!
But Sinatra, Deano and Sammy Davis Jr
were cool cats (or rats) - not royalty!
So we have to look elsewhere here...
Let's first establish who the 3 are NOT:
they are certainly and definitely not
- Athos, Porthos and Aramis
- Louvain, Lautrec & Lalonde
- Clooney, 'Ice Cube' and Marky Mark!
- Lavon, Dean Crownover & Ralph
- Bourdon, Campan et Légitimus
or even (or much less)
LaFleur, Phillips & Mendelson!!!

Now that that's settled...
The Three Kings are also known as
Three Wise Men
and Three Magi -
likely proficient in astronomy
as well as astrology, yes!
The truth is that there could have been
more than just three of them!
(Aren't you all relieved now,
those of you who put together
various remnants of old Nativity sets
and wound up, like me, with four,
five or up to nine or 12 Wise Men!
There aren't as many left
IN THE WORLD
or so it seems, oftentimes...!
Me, I just pretend the 4th one
(who wears a red cloak)
is none other than the REAL
Saint Nicholas!
No commercial Santa for me, no!
Nothing remotely "wise" in that
as far as I'm concerned - wise guy!
But I am digressing again...
And that is NOT so wise, no!
So, as Sammy Davis Jr would say
"let's move on"...!)
The Three Kings
(let's keep'em crowned, aye)
were simply three (or more) guys
who KNEW better than most!
They KNEW something was amiss
They KNEW something was happening
and they wouldn't have missed it
for the world!
So they made sure they were there
when THE EVENT was occurring...
They only narrowingly missed
THE BIRTH...
But they got there days later
and offered gifts to make up
for their tardiness!
(Well, okay -
the gifts were highly symbolic really
and what can you give someone
who already has EVERYTHING
- and that only truly applies
HERE; to the Son Of God!
Amen!)
Speaking of the Good Book -
I would not omit to mention the
choice for Verse of the Day
on this day of Epiphany,
courtesy of Facebook's Daily Verse application...!
January 06, 2008
Therefore no one will be declared righteous in God's sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin.
Romans 3:20

Whatever... What an interesting choice
for the Daily Verse
on the day of Epiphany
making us realize
a basic truth
on the day that bears the name
synoymous with intuitive
realization!
And one says intuitive
one says 'luminous' -
you know it!

Thus, I think it is a
foregone conclusion
what *my* verdict is
regarding the
Three Kings!

I leave thee, then,
with an exclusive set
(Scoop! Scoop!) of
luminous pictures of the
Pimentel Nativity Set
2007 edition -
try and spot
my 4th Wise Man,
St- Nicholas,
with a reindeer (!)
somewhere
on Little Jesus' right...!
;)
